The community radio campaign “Building Resilient Communities through Community Broadcasting: Community Radio Campaign against COVID-19” will contribute to increase resilience in local communities served by participating CR in Asia-Pacific countries. It seeks to lessen the impact of COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown measures on local economies, particularly on the most vulnerable and those living below the poverty line.
The local communities served by participating CR will have access to proper information and communication regarding how they can better protect themselves against the COVID-19 pandemic and; will increase their awareness on how to confront the consequences of the lockdown in their living conditions.
The project will thus contribute to reinforcing the impact of community radios in the following areas:
(a) The project seeks to enable participating community radios to effectively counter disinformation that confuses and misleads the most vulnerable communities by making available information from valid sources (WHO; etc.).
(b) Community radios will join local sanitary authorities, CBO, CSO and other institutions in bringing proper information, facilitating the organization and assistance to vulnerable populations and communities in their own languages and dialects on how to protect themselves from the COVID-19 pandemic and their awareness on how to confront lasting negative consequences of the lockdown.
(c) The project seeks to strengthen the capacity of community radio journalists’ ability to use diverse radio techniques for producing public service announcements, radio programs and thematic series; and broadcast, podcast or distribute them through social media to reach local audiences.
