Strengthening Women’s Rights In Rural Communities

The project addresses the role of media and particularly CR, in responding to the alarming increase in cases of violence against women and girls (VAWG) and all forms of violence in the context of COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in rural communities.

The project will be implemented in Bangladesh, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Myanmar and Nepal. The direct beneficiaries of the project are women working in community radios and victims of VAWG in the communities.

Change will come from activities of: (a) Research and publication of facts and actions needed to counter VAWG through effective media coverage during and in the aftermath of the pandemic; (b) Capacity building, knowledge and information sharing on content approach & angles for effective impact for VAWG media coverage by CRs and; (c) Production and broadcasting of high quality and inclusive radio programs in local languages for most vulnerable to VAWG.

We seek reinforced CR impact on behavioural change eliminating VAWG in times of the pandemic Also a reinforced capacity of women CR journalists for producing with local CSO, programs on VAWG prevention and protection of survivors, and an enhanced implementation of AMARC Gender Policy for CR (GP4CR), GMMP contributions and links among women broadcasters.
